JIANG HU
Featuring: Andy Lau, Edison Chen, Shawn Yu
Brief Synopsis: A Cantonese film charting the dual storyline of 2 friends who grow up to be triad leaders and the battles they have once they reach the top.

Comments: Despite missing the first 15 minutes due to traffic jams, it was an engaging film although it took me until the end of the film to realise that anything involving the young punks were actually the triad leaders in a flashback! It's a dark, moody Godfather-esque atmosphere which is just about right whenever triads are concerned because of their dealings at night. The tension is strung about right whilst you wonder what move the characters will make next. The acting is spot on with the portrayal of the boss and his bodyguard creating that nervousness where you wonder if another Hamlet-esque betrayal is about to occur. The acting of the younger guns didn't appeal as much to me but they served adequately enough to add to the story. A few loose ends were left open but overall not a regretable watch although not by any stretch of the imagination a feel good film! So what happened in the first 15 minutes?!?
Thing to learn from this film: Live by the sword, die by the sword. Or gun. Or machete.
