MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 3
Featuring: Tom Cruise, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Ving Rhames
Brief Synopsis: Someone falls in love, someone gets kidnapped and everyone's chasing a rabbit's foot.

Comments: The first summer blockbuster of the year and it is a scorcher. Tom promises as much on the website and I know - I spent a good 2 hours watching all the stuff on it and subconsciously absorbing the theme tune to a manic degree. It is action packed and the pacy sequences move on quickly from one to the other (although without too much of the silliness of the second film and without too much of the brain twisting of the first). All the special effects are excellent (as it should be for this sort of budget) together with some ace gadgets (ok, I'm just thinking of the remote controlled x-ray guns here) and it all very pleasing eye candy.

The cast do portray their characters with apparent ease as Tom slips in Ethan like a glove as does Ving Rhames with Luther. Maggie Q has no problems being a very skinny agent Zhen and I like Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Declan. But the character that steals the show for me is the brooding Philip Seymour Hoffman as Owen Davian - calm, smart, calculative and with an understated confidence of being able to carry out his threats. He truly is excellent. Must be all that stage acting.

Anyway I gave this film a very watchable rating but ever since the viewing a month ago, I find myself itching to see it all over again so maybe its addictability is stronger than I thought. It's all very enjoyable eye and popcorn candy. All together now doo doo doo...

Things to learn from this film: Never underestimate the Road Transporation Department.
Rating: 7/10
